Al-kīmiyā
English alchemy comes through Old French and Medieval Latin from Arabic al-kīmiyā. The second half is usually taken from late Greek khēmeía / khumeía. Another trail points at Egyptian kmt, the black land. In some Arabic use the word named the agent of change, close to al-iksīr, not a faculty department.
